A bus carrying football journalists covering the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) crashed as it approached Abidjan on Wednesday morning.

The bus — arranged by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) — was transporting journalists back to Abidjan from the capital Yamoussoukro, where they had been covering Senegal’s two-goal victory over Guinea on Tuesday night.

The accident happened at around 2am local time as the bus approached Abidjan.

Reporters who were travelling on the bus have told The Athletic there were two serious injuries with those requiring treatment taken to the Treichville University Hospital in Abidjan.

CAF has organised travel around Ivory Coast for international journalists, with buses transporting reporters between cities throughout the tournament.

CAF has been contacted by The Athletic for comment.
