Bayern Munich are considering a January move for Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier.
The German champions are prioritising the signing of a right-back in the January transfer window, with the England international one of several players under consideration.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Nordi Mukiele — who previously spent four years in the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig, has also been on Bayern’s shortlist — but negotiations have proven difficult.
Sacha Boey, a France under-21 international with Galatasaray, is also an option.
Trippier, 33, became the first signing of the PIF-era at Newcastle when he joined the club in a £12million deal from Atletico Madrid in January 2022.
He is not viewed as the long-term solution to Bayern’s problems at right-back but is highly rated for his professionalism and leadership.
Noussair Mazraoui’s hamstring injury and participation in the African Cup of Nations have left Bayern short in the right-back position, with midfielder Konrad Laimer frequently deputising in the position.
If a move to Bayern materialises, Trippier would link-up with his former Tottenham teammates Harry Kane and Eric Dier — whom he also plays alongside with England, and who have joined the German champions in each of the most recent two transfer windows.
Trippier has become a key figure in Eddie Howe’s side in the two years since, clocking up 79 first-team appearances for Newcastle — scoring three goals.
He has been a near ever-present for Newcastle in the Premier League since the start of the 2022-23 season, starting 57 of the club’s 59 league matches in that timeframe and playing in all six Champions League matches this season.
