Jonny set for transfer to PAOK from Wolves

Jonny Otto is set to join PAOK from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 29-year-old is free to leave in the January transfer window after he was banished from first-team duties following a “training ground incident” in November.

Wolves have been in talks with PAOK and the final parts of a deal are being concluded that will see Jonny move to Greece this month.

The Athletic reported that Jonny swung an elbow towards under-21s forward Tawanda Chirewa and damaged items in the players’ room in the incident that led to him being exiled from the squad.

Jonny also spat at a coaching staff member who attempted to remove him from the altercation with Chirewa during a training session at Compton Park. He was understood have become irritated by a challenge from the 20-year-old leading up to their match against Arsenal and responded angrily towards the former Ipswich Town forward.

The former Spain international aimed an elbow but did not make contact and Chirewa was not injured as a result of the altercation.

Fellow players were left in shock as a member of the coaching staff intervened to resolve the confrontation. Jonny then spat at the staff member, leading to his expulsion from training and being ordered to return inside the training ground buildings.

He then vented his frustration by damaging equipment in the players’ room, including smashing a TV and causing damage to a table. This resulted in him being sent home.

Jonny joined Wolves from Atletico Madrid in 2018 and was a key figure under former coach Nuno Espirito Santo, who signed him from the Spanish club.

However, he has only played four minutes in the Premier League this season, coming on as a substitute in the 2-1 home win against Manchester City. Additionally, he started in the 5-0 home win against Blackpool in the EFL Cup last August and the 3-2 defeat at Ipswich in the same competition.
