Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku is staying at Stamford Bridge, but the club are prepared to loan out Joao Felix before the deadline tonight.
Nkunku has been subject of a lot of interest this month, including from Bayern Munich and Manchester United.
The 27-year-old has been a fringe member of the squad under head coach Enzo Maresca this season. He has made just three starts in the Premier League.
Chelsea were prepared to sell him this month if a club met their valuation of around £65million but no-one made such an offer. Given his lack of football for Chelsea, Bayern Munich and United feel he is worth around £40m.
United did contact Chelsea on Sunday about taking him on loan for the rest of the season, but Chelsea did not want to let him go on loan and the player did not want that either.
Another issue for United is their tight financial situation and the fact that they were unable to sell Marcus Rashford on a permanent basis. He has moved to Aston Villa on loan for the rest of the campaign and could return to Old Trafford in the summer.
Clubs in Italy are interested in a straight loan for the rest of the season. Chelsea are considering allowing the Portugal international, who currently prefers a switch to Serie A over other European leagues, to leave in order for him to get more first-team football.
The 25-year-old, who joined Chelsea from Atletico Madrid for around £44.5m in August, has started just nine times in all competitions and made only 20 appearances overall.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa are seen as increasingly unlikely to sign defender Axel Disasi on loan. The two clubs had been in talks but did not agree on terms. Chelsea rejected a £6m offer from Aston Villa, who view a deal to acquire the defender as too expensive.
Disasi is still attracting offers from other clubs in the Premier League and elsewhere in Europe.
