Eder Militao signs new Real Madrid contract until 2028

Real Madrid have announced the contract renewal of defender Eder Militao until 2028.

Militao’s previous deal was due to expire in 2025. He will receive a pay rise and hold a €1billion release clause.

The extension was sealed and signed in July 2022, as were those of Vinicius Junior (2027) and Rodrygo (2028). Those renewals were joined in 2023 by those of Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde, who also signed contract extensions.

With these moves, Real Madrid have secured the futures of five of their most important young players, who are examples of the club’s new transfer policy.

Madrid signed them before they reached their full potential and incorporating them became more difficult or impossible due to the economic muscle of clubs owned by nation states, the Premier League or even Saudi Arabia.

Militao was signed by Real Madrid from Porto for €50million in 2019. Since then he has won one Champions League, two La Liga titles, one Club World Cup, one European Super Cup, one Copa del Rey and three Supercopas de Espana.

In August, in Real Madrid’s first La Liga match of the season against Athletic Bilbao, Militao suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture in his left knee. He is not expected to return until March or April.

Militao has played 143 matches for Real Madrid, scoring 11 goals.
