The United States men’s national team (USMNT) has recently been hit by the controversy surrounding Borussia Dortmund star Giovanni Reyna and former coach Gregg Berhalter.
Reyna‘s family revealed a domestic violence incident that involves Berhalter, who accused them of blackmailing him because he didn’t offer the player enough playing time in the 2022 World Cup.
Former USMNT coach Jurgen Klinsmann has been the latest to address the matter, stressing that national team directors need to find a prompt solution ahead of the 2026 World Cup, one which will be co-hosted by the US.
« It’s obviously not looking good at the situation of US Soccer right now from the outside, » Klinsmann told Goal.
« They have to figure things out, they will do that obviously over the next couple of months.
« They will figure things out because the United States are going towards being the host of the next World Cup, which is super, super exciting. »
The future of the USMNT
The United States will host the next World Cup, along with Mexico and Canada.
In the shorter term, the USMNT will face Serbia and Colombia in two friendlies that will take place in January.
They will do so with Anthony Hudson in the dugout, pending the results of the investigation into Berhalter, who recently admitted an incident of domestic violence that occurred in 1991 between him and his wife Rosalind.
