Hugo Lloris has aimed a dig at his opposite number from the World Cup final, Emi Martinez, and is clearly not a fan of the Argentine’s antics.
Lloris, who has now retired from international football, was on the losing side as his France team were defeated by Argentina on penalties in Qatar.
Lloris watched on as Martinez attempted to distract and play mind games with the French penalty takers.
Too honest
Speaking to L’Equipe in his homeland, the Tottenham goalkeeper claims it is not in his nature to act the way Martinez did in the shootout.
« There are things I don’t know how to do. Doing foolish things on the goal line, supposedly putting off the opponent, playing at the limit, I don’t know how to do it, » reflected Lloris.
« I’m too rational, too honest to get involved in that.
« I can’t win like that, even if I really didn’t want to lose like that, not even then. »
As for Martinez‘s unorthodox celebrations, Lloris declined to comment. He did describe their recent encounter on club duty as « distant » however.
« We have to salute Argentina’s victory and say it was conclusive, » said Lloris.
« Then, with the celebration, he was judged enough so I don’t need to add anything.
« During the shootout itself he did everything he could to put players off. »
