Aston Villa Women have completed the signing of Missy Bo Kearns from Liverpool for an undisclosed fee.

The midfielder, who has captained England’s Under-23 side, has signed a three-year contract, joining the club after starting her senior career with Liverpool in 2018.

“Missy Bo is a great asset for our team,” Villa manager Robert de Pauw said. “She is a good player and has the potential to be a future leader. We are happy to have her in our squad. I see Missy as a dynamic, box-to-box midfielder. She is a good passer and also knows where to find the goal.

“Missy Bo has the potential and ability to become a regular England international.”

Kearns made over 100 appearances for her hometown club and has been a regular for England at youth levels.

Kearns made her first-team debut for Liverpool in March 2019 against Chelsea and quickly became a key player. She signed her first professional contract in January 2020 and spent a brief spell on loan at Blackburn Rovers.

The 23-year-old saw a significant increase in playing time during the 2020-21 season, establishing herself as a first-team regular and scoring her first senior goal against Leicester City.

She became the youngest player to captain Liverpool at the age of 20 in October 2021, leading the team in League Cup matches against Villa and Blackburn Rovers. Kearns has also twice won Liverpool’s player of the season award.

“We respect Missy Bo’s decision and she departs with our very best wishes and, I’m sure, those of our fans,” Liverpool manager Matt Beard said.

“She has worn the shirt with the pride of a local girl and I have enjoyed my time working with her over so many years.

“I will follow her future development with great interest and pride.”
