The Houston Dash has signed 33-year-old Swiss midfielder Ramona Bachmann from Paris Saint-Germain. She will join the club immediately following the completion of the paperwork. Bachmann signed a two-year contract extension with PSG in May 2023 which ran through June 2025 but has not been on the French soccer team’s roster since February. Neither team disclosed Bachmann’s transfer fee.

“I am very excited to join this incredible team and community,” Bachmann said. “I can’t wait to give my all on the field and contribute to a successful journey this season.”

Bachman has played for some of the most successful clubs in Europe throughout her career. Her nearly four years at PSG were preceded by stints at Chelsea, Wolfsburg, and Rosengård. Bachmann also saw time in the United States, playing for the Atlanta Beat in Women’s Professional Soccer, the league that preceded NWSL.

“The accolades Ramona has won speak for themselves and we are thrilled to add a veteran that has not only competed at the highest level, but won major trophies along the way,” Dash general manager Alex Singer said. “She adds a new dimension to how we approach our offense and capitalize on the opportunities we create in the final third. We look forward to watching her impact both on and off the field.”

How will the Dash use Bachmann?

Bachmann is a relatively flexible midfielder who can push high as a striker. It’s a curious signing for the Dash though. The team is currently a little light defensively but are stacked with attacking power, as seen in its most recent 3-2 win over Bay FC. It’s possible Bachmann could be a right-sided complement for Maria Sánchez or a way for the team to keep its press higher and away from its own goal, where head coach Fran Alonso has rearranged the team, including moving Sophie Schmidt into the defense.
