Angel City have confirmed that sporting director Eni Aluko has left the National Women’s Soccer League club.
Aluko joined Angel City in May 2021 to become their first-ever sporting director. She had left a similar role at Aston Villa to take up the vacancy.
As sporting director, Aluko led roster management, the club’s recruitment strategy, oversaw player and technical staff development, and acted as the NWSL liaison, managing compliance and administration.
But both Aluko and Angel City have now agreed to cut ties.
A statement read: “Angel City and Eniola Aluko have mutually agreed to part ways.
“She is returning to the UK to be close to her family, focus on her broadcasting career, and other opportunities.
“We are grateful to Eni for her contributions to our historic inaugural season.”
Aluko was seen on televisions in the UK throughout the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, as part of ITV’s broadcasting team during the tournament.
She has since featured in ITV’s FA Cup coverage and on Amazon Prime as a pundit for their Premier League analysis.
Angel City is a newly formed expansion team based in Los Angeles that competed in the NWSL for the first time in 2022.
The team was announced in July 2020 and has many high-profile co-owners, including Natalie Portman, Eva Longoria, Mia Hamm and Serena Williams.
