Chelsea look set to continue their January spending as they close in on a record-breaking deal for Benfica’s Enzo Fernandez.
The Blues are the highest spenders in the Premier League by a long way and they are likely to push through yet another huge deal on deadline day.
They have already made seven signings this transfer window, with Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile and Noni Madueke all making big money moves.
Fernandez looks to be the next through the door and Chelsea are set to pay more than the World Cup winner’s huge release clause.
What is Enzo Fernandez’s release clause?
Fernandez has a £105million release clause at Benfica.
Chelsea’s only chance at signing the midfielder was if they paid the release clause after manager Roger Schmidt admitted they ‘cannot stop’ him leaving if that value was met.
Schmidt said earlier in the window: “We all know that we have a situation with Enzo that he has a clause in the contract.
“So that means if the player wants to and there’s a club who pays this amount of money, you cannot stop that.”

But, Chelsea are now set to pay more than the release clause to make sure they get their man before the deadline.
The Blues are willing to pay the £105m with a big up front fee and five further smaller instalments.
This would mean the deal could rise to £115m in total including bonuses.
The move would not only double the January deadline day record but it would also make the Argentinian the Premier League’s most expensive player.
