Tottenham look to have salvaged their deal for Sporting Lisbon defender Pedro Porro after agreeing a £40million fee, talkSPORT understands.
The move was in doubt after Sporting pulled the plug on Sunday but talks resumed after Porro skipped training on Monday.
Porro has already agreed personal terms and is set to undergo a medical on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old attacking defender has been Antonio Conte’s No.1 target for the January transfer window, and he is now set to get his man before the deadline at 11pm on Tuesday.
Spurs have already sealed a deal for Dutch forward Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal, with the former Bournemouth man scoring on his debut against Preston in the FA Cup.
Wing-back was an area of need for Conte, though, with Porro one of Europe’s top talents in the specialist position, having starred in the Primeira Liga, Champions League, and for Spain.
With Porro on his way, Spurs can now manage their options on the right side, which will see summer signing Djed Spence join French outfit Rennes on loan for the remainder of the season.
The England under-21 was signed for £20m from Middlesbrough, but failed to impress Conte despite being a stand-out performer on loan at Nottingham Forest last season.

The Porro saga looks set to be a happy ending for Spurs, with Arsenal fan Laura Woods earlier teasing Jamie O’Hara about the deal appearing to collapse on Monday morning.
And it’s a signing that Spurs fan Darren Ambrose believes Harry Kane will particularly appreciate.
“Pedro Porro for me is what we need,” Ambrose told talkSPORT.
“I think the right wing-back position, we’ve not really got it right since the days of Kyle Walker and Kieran Trippier but if we got him in…
“I was watching clips of him and he just looks exciting, his delivery is fantastic. Harry Kane will be licking his lips thinking about some of those crosses that he puts in.
“I’ll be delighted with that one. If you look at the right side of Spurs, they’ve struggled in recent years… he’s building something Conte and hopefully we get that one done over the line.”
