Moises Caicedo has said no to Liverpool, for now. The Ecuadorian has only one goal and that is to play for Chelsea.

Jurgen Klopp had confirmed the agreement between the Reds and Brighton during his Friday press-conference, with the fee believed to be around 127 million euros.

However, just hours later the midfielder made clear that he only wants to play at Stamford Bridge, according to Fabrizio Romano.

“I can confirm that there is an agreement with Brighton and the agents for the player,” the German manager declared.

“We have tried to sign him and the club have done everything possible to bring him in.”

At the time of writing, the deal has not happened, but Caicedo would have become the most expensive signing of this transfer window, costing more than Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham.

This may yet still happen if Chelsea match the terms offered by the Anfield club, with developments occurring at a rapid pace throughout Friday.

The German coach didn’t want to get the fans totally excited and, in the end, he was right, as the player has sensationally rejected Liverpool.

“With the player, we’ll have to see. Medical examination today? I can’t tell you, I don’t know.”

The player wants to go to Chelsea

More than a few teams have shown interest in the Ecuadorian player. After his good performance at Brighton, the midfielder has earned a great reputation in the Premier League.

Last year his move to Arsenal was cut short by the high fee that Brighton demanded. Their neighbors, Chelsea, seemed to be the favorites then and now, after the Italian journalist’s information, they continue to be so.

The Blues were tired of waiting for an answer, opening the door to Liverpool, who, moreover, had submitted a better offer for the player.

Only the Reds have come close to Brighton‘s demands, but the player does not want to play at Anfield. Now, the Blues must submit a higher offer than those made previously.

Football has changed

This was the exact response the German coach gave when asked about his statement following Pogba’s 100-million-euro move to Manchester United.

At the time, the coach said that “the day this is football, then I will no longer have a job.”

However, Klopp is continuing to work at Liverpool, despite his insistence that high transfer fees didn’t suit him, when his own club are looking to make Caicedo the most expensive player in Premier League history.

“Honestly, everything has changed, do I like it? No. But do I realize I was wrong? Yes, definitely,” Klopp concluded.

Liverpool have strengthened with two more midfielders, Mac Allister (42 million) and Szoboszlai (70 million). The signing of Caicedo seemed to be the third, but the Ecuadorian had other ideas.
