Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has revealed Weston McKennie won’t take part in their next game, as he has ‘agreed’ a transfer – reportedly to Leeds United.
The United States international midfielder has been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Leeds interested before Nottingham Forest also entered the race for him.
McKennie has been on the fringes at Juventus for quite a while now and a transfer may be on the cards in the final days of the transfer window.
Speaking to the press ahead of Juventus’ league clash against Monza on Sunday afternoon, Allegri said: “McKennie there won’t be tomorrow. I believe that the club has reached an agreement with its next club and, therefore, it is useless to summon him tomorrow.”
It is further reported that Leeds are the club that has won the race to sign the 24-year-old, with claims he has agreed to join the Premier League side in a loan deal.
The Whites have been in constant contact with Juventus over a move for McKennie, and he would add to their American contingent which already includes players Tyler Adams and Brendan Aaronson, as well as head coach Jesse Marsch.
Forest recently considered the possibility of signing McKennie as they look to improve their hopes of surviving in the Premier League for at least another season.
But it appears he is now on his way to have a medical with Leeds, with Fabrizio Romano claiming there will be an option to buy McKennie at the end of the loan spell for around £30million, and that he has already agreed personal terms over a move to Elland Road.
McKennie has been with Juventus since 2020, initially joining the Turin giants on loan from Schalke before penning a permanent deal.
He had moved to the German club in 2017 after deciding to leave Major League Soccer outfit FC Dallas.
While he was an important figure in the Juventus squad early in his career with the Bianconeri, matters have changed since and he hasn’t been quite as impactful.
He’ll be hoping to get back into top form while in England and make a mark in his first shot in the Premier League in the remainder of the season.
