It is looking increasingly likely that Joao Felix will be leaving Atletico Madrid in January and heading to Premier League side Chelsea on loan for the rest of the season.
He has never seemed to see eye to eye with head coach Diego Simeone and there has been an inevitability about his eventual departure from the Rojoblancos.
Despite this situation, he did start for Atleti in the 1-0 defeat against Barcelona on Sunday night at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Nevertheless, Joao Felix‘s fate may become clearer in the next few days.
The race seemed to be a head-to-head between Arsenal and Manchester United, but finally Chelsea have positioned themselves to be closest to signing the Portuguese star.
It had initially seemed that Chelsea were out of the picture.
The Stamford Bridge side, who have just been beaten in the 4-0 FA Cup by Manchester City, would thus be reinforced with an attacking player who could try to change the negative dynamic that the club are experiencing under Graham Potter this season since he took over from Thomas Tuchel.
Loan deal expected for Felix
The operation, reported by Daily Record and confirmed by MARCA, will be a loan without option to buy. Then, in June, talks can be held to see if a permanent deal can be found.
Meanwhile, the Atleti stance remains that of waiting for the definitive offer for the player’s departure.
