Nigel James, the father of England internationals Reece and Lauren, has taken up an advisory role with the Grenadian Football Association (GFA).
Chelsea’s Reece and Manchester United’s Lauren have established impressive careers in the men’s and women’s games respectively, and their father — who is of Grenadian descent — has also developed a strong reputation as a coach before his new position with the Caribbean country.
A statement from the office of the Prime Minister of Grenada read: “In a recent visit to the Prime Minister’s office, Mr. Nigel James shared his experiences as a former football player. Now coach of his two children Reece and Lauren James, he outlined ways in which his technical expertise can benefit young Grenadian players especially in Grassroots football.
“Mr James was accompanied by President of the Grenada Football Association (GFA), Marlon Glean who highlighted the need for communities to support sports and education for the they work hand in hand.
“Mr James pledged his commitment to support GFA with football programs, coaching sessions and leveraging assistance for our Grenadian football players.”
Grenada are ranked 174 in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings, and 168 in the women’s rankings.
Back in the UK, Nigel James runs the much respected Nigel James Elite Coaching school, which was set up in 2002, and also takes charge of local club Hanworth Villa’s Under-18 side.
He has been a coach for over 20 years and scouted for clubs such as Tottenham, Fulham and Reading. Through his coaching school, more than 26 players have been offered professional contracts, while his children are regular starters for elite teams.
