Marcus Rashford has not been included in England’s squad for Euro 2024.

The forward, 26, has had a disappointing season at Manchester United scoring just eight times for Erik ten Hag’s side across all competitions.

His dip in form has seen United use Alejandro Garnacho on the left ahead of Rashford in recent weeks.

He has also suffered with a number of injury problems throughout the campaign.

Rashford has won 60 caps for his country after making his debut in May 2016, scoring 17 goals.

Gareth Southgate will confirm an expanded preliminary squad for the tournament in Germany at 2pm BST this afternoon before cutting the group to 26 players ahead of the UEFA deadline of June 7.

England kick off their campaign against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen on June 16.

Rashford was a key performer for England at the Qatar World Cup in 2022, playing in all five games at the tournament and scoring three goals.

United would consider selling Rashford this summer but only if a substantial offer arrives and he tells the club he wants to leave.

They are not proactively looking to sell him, however, with their preference being to keep the player and work with him to help him return to the form of previous years.

Rashford signed a new five-year contract at Old Trafford last July which runs until June 2028.

That followed his most successful scoring season as a professional, with the striker registering 30 goals in 56 matches across all competitions.

‘A bitter blow’

Analysis by Manchester United correspondent Mark Critchley

Rashford’s omission from the England’s initial European Championship squad will come as a bitter blow to the Manchester United forward after a trying season.

Rashford returned from his last major international tournament as one of the most in-form players in Europe, scoring 16 goals in 17 games for United upon returning from the 2022 World Cup.

The 26-year-old had to fight to earn his place in Gareth Southgate’s squad for that tournament, having been dropped the previous September, but his performances in Qatar and during the remainder of the club campaign restored his status as one of England’s key players.

Yet Rashford now finds himself omitted once again after a challenging season at Old Trafford, in which he has only scored eight goals in 42 appearances and has spent periods sidelined through injury.

That inconsistency of form and the depth of competition for in wide positions has led Southgate to look elsewhere and may leave Rashford watching the tournament from home this summer.
