Erik ten Hag says Lisandro Martinez could be available for Manchester United’s trip to Brentford this weekend.

In February, the 26-year-old suffered a right knee injury during United’s 3-0 Premier League win against West Ham United.

Martinez sprained a medial collateral ligament in a collision with West Ham’s Vladimir Coufal in the 68th minute that was expected to keep him out for around eight weeks.

The Athletic reported earlier this month that Martinez was progressing well in his recovery and could return to first-team action at the Gtech Community Stadium this Saturday. The defender had been training with his country Argentina, having been called up to their squad for the friendlies against El Salvador and Costa Rica.

Ten Hag said: “Yes there is a chance (he could be available).

“We have missed him every game because he brings a composure in the team, a calmness in the team. At the same time, a winning attitude and he can express this very clearly. He can transfer that into the team and that contributes a lot to our levels.”

“There are players returning, they are back on the pitch they are back in team training. We have one more training now. But it is most likely that we have some players back in the squad.”

Martinez, acquired by United from Ajax for £47million ($58.9m) in the summer of 2022, reunited with former Ajax coach Ten Hag.

Last season, he made 45 appearances across all competitions but missed the final nine Premier League matches due to a foot injury. He has, however, only made 10 appearances in this campaign.
