Jamie O’Hara has urged Daniel Levy to walk away from Tottenham after Pedro Porro’s proposed move to north London broke down.
Tottenham had agreed to pay around £39million for the Sporting right-wing-back, managing to avoid paying his £40m release clause in one payment.
However, transfer expert David Ornstein reported on Monday morning that Porro’s move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is ‘off’.
Spurs will be able to get the deal done if they trigger the player’s £40m release clause, with personal terms and a five-and-a-half-year contract already reportedly agreed.
Should Porro stay in Portugal, Spurs head coach Antonio Conte will be left with Djed Spence, Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal as his right-wing-back options.
Although Conte spent close to £200m in the summer transfer window, there are still some positions in dire need of upgrading, starting with right-wing-back.
Spence was signed last summer but is yet to start a game under the Italian head coach, while Doherty and Emerson – in particular – have not been performing at a high level.
Despite the vast amount of money spent in the summer window, O’Hara has urged his former club to get more signings through the door before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
Usually in the talkSPORT studio, O’Hara phoned in and was chatting like an enraged supporter, saying Spurs need a new ‘centre-half, another left-wing-back, creative midfielder and goalkeeper’.
He said: “We’ve got to buy new players! The players are not good enough at the back.
“We have got to back Antonio Conte. If we want to keep him at the football club and be successful, you have got to bring the players in.
“Pedro Porro is a fantastic player, he is way better than what we have got.
“I am sick of Spurs trying to sign players that just improve the squad. If you look at Man United, you look at Arsenal, they have brought players in, in positions where it is going to improve the 11 players on the pitch. Spurs… we buy players that are just going to improve the bench.
“We have got to get in Pedro Porro, he is a big signing for us. We make that happen and I will go, ‘Okay, we are going in the right direction’.
“Centre-half, another left-wing-back, creative midfielder and a new ‘keeper! Then we are flying.”
O’Hara’s head was quickly in his hands in disarray after being told by Laura Woods that Ornstein has reported that the deal was off.
This resulted in a scathing assessment of Daniel Levy, who “needs to get out of Tottenham”, according to the club’s ex-midfielder.
“If that’s the case, Daniel Levy needs to get out of Tottenham, seriously,” O’Hara continued.
“If we don’t get this signing over the line, the fans are going to go mental. That is not good for him right now because Spurs fans have been after this player, they want him. It has took ages to get it done.
“If it doesn’t get done, and we are stuck with Emerson Royal ’til the end of the season… I might as well not even bother going to watch them.”
