Portuguese top division club Braga will allow free entry to the general public for their final home league game of 2024.

Braga host Casa Pia in Portugal’s top flight on Sunday, December 29, and the club have announced they will grant free admission into their Municipal de Braga stadium for the match.

Supporters will not need to purchase any ticket for the game and will be able to access the stadium via any of its turnstile access points, but any season ticket holders who pay for an annual seat in the stadium will still have their space guaranteed.

Braga are currently fourth in Primeira Liga, Portugal’s top flight, nine points behind league leaders Sporting Club. Braga’s average attendance for league matches is approximately half of their stadium’s 30,000 capacity.

Club sources have told The Athletic that the move is a gesture of thanks to the club’s fanbase their support throughout the calendar year, which saw Braga win the Taca de Liga (Portuguese League Cup) and to celebrate the new year together.

Braga believe that many lapsed fans will be attracted by the proposal and that many supporters will have returned home over the Christmas and New Year period, allowing them to maximise the capacity.

Carlos Carvahal’s side are currently 25th in the Europa League’s 36-team league phase; one spot outside of the qualification play-off spots for the knockout round.
