Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber and Nathan Ake of Manchester City have been left out of the Netherlands squad for October’s Nations League matches.

Ake, 29, started both of his nation’s matches in September — a 5-2 win at home to Bosnia & Herzegovina and a 2-2 draw against Germany — while Timber, 23, played in both games as a substitute.

Ex-Bournemouth defender Ake has featured just twice for City this season, as a substitute in the Community Shield against Manchester United and in the Premier League win at West Ham United, having been injured in the Netherlands’ game against Germany.

Timber, who missed the majority of the 2023-24 campaign with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) knee injury, has played eight matches this season for Arsenal of which he has started seven.

Other absentees from Ronald Koeman’s squad include Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij, Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, Memphis Depay and the uncapped Crysencio Summerville of West Ham.

Netherlands visit Hungary on October 11 before facing Germany three days later.
