Enzo Fernandez has been included in Argentina’s provisional squad for Copa America 2024.

The Athletic previously reported that Chelsea midfielder Fernandez faced a battle to be fit in time for this summer’s tournament after the 23-year-old had groin surgery in April which ruled him out for the rest of his club’s season.

Roma’s attacking midfielder Paulo Dybala, meanwhile, has been left out of Lionel Scaloni’s squad. The 30-year-old has been omitted despite an impressive season for his club.

He has scored 16 goals and provided 10 assists in 38 games for Roma, as he helped fire the Italian side to the semi-finals of the Europa League.

Dybala has also won three Serie A player of the month awards this season, more than any other player this season.

Manchester United defender Martinez, meanwhile, has been given the nod despite only recently returning from a calf injury.

Due to several injury issues, the 26-year-old has been limited to just 13 appearances in all competitions this season for United.

Scaloni has until June 12 to cut his 29-man squad to the 26.

Argentina face two friendlies against Ecuador on June 9 and Guatemala five days later.

They then begin their Copa America campaign on June 21 against Canada, before facing Chile on June 26 and then Peru on June 30.
