Scott McTominay has completed his move from Manchester United to Napoli.

McTominay travelled to Italy earlier this week to undergo a medical ahead of a transfer worth €30.5million (£25.7m; $33.7m).

United also retain a 10 per cent sell-on fee as part of the agreement. Fulham had previously bid for McTominay but have since signed midfielder Sander Berge from Burnley.

United’s view is that they were reluctant to lose the 27-year-old but could not guarantee the minutes he wanted. As a product of United’s academy, McTominay’s sale represents ‘pure profit’ and will help the Old Trafford club to comply with the Premier League and UEFA’s financial regulations.

The Scotland international’s exit comes with United set to sign Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain in a deal potentially worth up to €60m (£50.5m).

McTominay enjoyed his best scoring season last term for United, registering 10 goals in 43 appearances. He has played 255 times for United since making his debut in 2017.

The midfielder joins a growing contingent of Scots playing in Italy, which includes Lewis Ferguson at Bologna, Josh Doig at Sassuolo, Che Adams at Torino and Liam Henderson at Empoli.

Napoli have had a mixed start to the season under new head coach Antonio Conte. They lost the first game of the Serie A season 3-0 at Hellas Verona but won 3-0 at home against Bologna on Sunday.
