Raphael Varane has joined Italian club Como on a free transfer after leaving Manchester United.
The former France international left United at the end of his contract this summer after making 95 appearances across three seasons for the club.
He has signed a two-year contract at newly-promoted Como with the option to extend his deal.
The 31-year-old will work under former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas, who was appointed at the club’s new head coach having previously worked as assistant coach.
Varane joined United from Real Madrid in the summer of 2o21 and helped the club win the Carabao Cup in the 2022-23 season and the FA Cup the following year.
He began his career at hometown club Lens in France before joining Madrid in 2011, where he would make 360 first-team appearances across a decade.
The central defender won 18 trophies at the Spanish club, including three La Liga titles and four Champions League trophies.
Varane also enjoyed a distinguished international career, winning the World Cup with France in 2018 and the Nations League three years later while being capped 93 times by his nation.
Como will play in Serie A next season for the first time in 21 years after winning promotion to the top flight as runners-up Serie B.
