Everton close in on deal to sign Jesper Lindstrom from Napoli

Everton are edging closer to a deal for Napoli winger Jesper Lindstrom.

Talks have progressed with both clubs around Lindstrom joining on an initial loan with an option to buy, and should everything go according to plan, the 24-year-old will travel for a medical this week ahead of a proposed move to Goodison Park.

The Merseyside club remain in the market to strengthen their options out wide this summer, having missed out on previous targets Yankuba Minteh and Jaden Philogene. Minteh moved to Brighton & Hove Albion for a fee in the region of £30million, while Philogene has rejoined Aston Villa.

Everton have re-signed Jack Harrison on a season-long loan from Leeds United and Iliman Ndiaye has joined from Marseille, but the departure of Lewis Dobbin and the end of Arnaut Danjuma’s loan spell leaves Harrison, Ndiaye and Dwight McNeil as Sean Dyche’s only recognised wide midfielders.

Lindstrom, meanwhile, joined Napoli from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer. He made 31 appearances in all competitions last season, providing one assist. However, he struggled to break into the starting line-up, starting just twice in Serie A.

The Denmark international had previously enjoyed a two-year spell at Eintracht, scoring 14 goals and providing one assist in 80 appearances.

Lindstrom made his international debut in October 2020 and has been capped 16 times. He was also part of Denmark’s squad at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Along with Harrison and Ndiaye, Everton have also completed the signing of Tim Iroegbunam from Villa.

Dyche’s side finished 15th in the Premier League last season and begin the new campaign at home to Brighton.
