Denzel Dumfries does not intend to engage in negotiations with Inter Milan over a new contract until the transfer window has closed.
The Netherlands international has entered the final 12 months of his deal at San Siro and Inter want to secure the 28-year-old right wing-back to fresh terms.
But as things stand he remains focused on a move elsewhere, with the possibility of joining Manchester United carrying particular appeal.
That would only be a potential option if Aaron Wan-Bissaka definitively rejects a switch to West Ham United — at present they have an agreement in principle with Manchester United, however personal terms are not yet in place.
Wan-Bissaka favours the prospect of heading to Inter and that would open the chance of a Dumfries swap, which has so far been raised by intermediaries rather than between clubs.
Manchester United would still prefer to sell Wan-Bissaka to West Ham and sign Noussair Mazraoui of Bayern Munich, with talks ongoing.
Dumfries made 31 appearances in Serie A last season, scoring four goals and contributing five assists as Inter won a 20th Scudetto by 19 points from city rivals AC Milan.
