David De Gea has joined Fiorentina as a free agent — 15 months after his exit from Manchester United.
The 33-year-old goalkeeper left Old Trafford after 12 years and 545 appearances following the expiry of his contract last summer.
He now joins Fiorentina on a one-year deal with the option of a further year.
De Gea’s last competitive appearance for any club came in United’s defeat to Manchester City in the 2023 FA Cup final.
The former Spain international won five trophies in his more than a decade in Manchester as well as breaking Peter Schmeichel’s club clean-sheet record.
He made the last of his 45 appearances for his country in 2010.
Pietro Terracciano was Fiorentina’s first-choice goalkeeper last season, making 53 appearances in all competitions and keeping 13 clean sheets.
Fiorentina finished eighth in Serie A last season and reached the Europa Conference League final, where they were beaten by Olympiacos.
They begin the new Serie A campaign at Parma on August 17.
