Che Adams joins Torino on free transfer after Southampton departure

Che Adams has joined Serie A side Torino on a free transfer after leaving Southampton following the end of his contract.

The 28-year-old Scotland forward has signed a three-year deal with the Turin club, who finished last season ninth in Serie A.

Southampton offered Adams a new deal while Wolverhampton Wanderers also made an offer for the forward. Wolves had wanted to sign Adams on the final day of last summer’s transfer window, with the player believed to have been keen, but they could not agree a deal with Southampton.

Adams scored 16 Championship goals for Southampton last season as they secured promotion to the Premier League via a play-off final victory over Leeds United. He previously scored 25 goals in 88 Premier League starts during four years in the top flight with Southampton, who he joined from Birmingham for £15million in 2019.

There were three other Scottish players in Italy last season, including Bologna’s Lewis Ferguson, who was voted the best midfielder in the league before being injured and missing out on Euro 2024. The others were Liam Henderson at Palermo and Josh Doig at Sassuolo.

Adams started all three of Scotland’s matches in their disappointing Euro 2024 campaign as they went out in the group stages.
