In December 2022, Silvio Berlusconi, former Italian prime minister and owner of AC Monza, promised a « bus load of prostitutes » to his players if they beat the Serie A giants.
« We have found a coach (Raffaele Palladino) who is good, kind and able to stimulate our boys. I have also given extra motivation to the players and told them that if we beat Milan, Juventus, one of these big clubs, I will send them a bus full of prostitutes to the dressing room, » Berlusconi said in a video recorded at his team’s Christmas dinner that went viral.
Berlusconi‘s words were widely criticised and the former AC Milan owner defended himself by claiming it was « a simple locker room joke » and criticised his political opponents for their « total lack of humour » in attacking him « in such a gratuitous way ».
Berlusconi: I’ve already been called by over 100 people, and they are asking me to honour the commitment…
But Monza‘s 2-0 win, with goals from Dany Mota and Patrick Ciurria, against the mighty Juventus has revived Berlusconi’s old promise.
« Already over 100 people have called me, and asked me to fulfil the commitment… », said Berlusconi, according to La Repubblica.
The victory means that Monza have now done the double over Juventus, beating them 1-0 earlier in the season at home. It was a day of shocks in Serie A as Milan were beaten 5-2 at home by Sassuolo.
