Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha could face punishment after a post-match altercation that allegedly left an Ipswich security guard’s glasses broken.

The Brazil international, who scored his eighth Premier League goal of the season in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat against Ipswich at Molineux, was seen with his hand in the face of an Ipswich staff member during ill-tempered post-match scenes.

Ipswich expect the matter to be investigated by the Football Association (FA), which has the authority to charge Cunha.

The Athletic has contacted the FA for comment.

Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri received a second yellow card and a subsequent red after the final whistle and had to be dragged down the tunnel following a spat with Ipswich players.

The incidents came just five days after Wolves midfielder Mario Lemina was involved in a post-match altercation with West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen following a 2-1 defeat at the London Stadium. He had to be dragged away after shoving two Wolves team-mates and first-team coach Shaun Derry after that incident.

Lemina was subsequently stripped of the Wolves captaincy and replaced by Nelson Semedo.

During the 4-2 defeat by Bournemouth late last month, goalkeeper Jose Sa also climbed into the North Bank at Molineux to argue with fans at half-time.

And after the 2-1 home loss to Liverpool in September, Lemina was reduced to tears on the pitch after the game.

Ait-Nouri was already set to be suspended for next Saturday’s game at Leicester after receiving his fifth yellow card of the season in the first half of today’s defeat.

But he will now miss that game because of his red card and will return afterwards still on four bookings, one more away from a further ban.

“I haven’t seen it but Rayan will know how I feel about it already because getting a second yellow card and being unavailable for next week’s game can have catastrophic consequences,” said head coach Gary O’Neil.

“However much stress and however much pressure we’re under at this moment, we need to keep control.”
