Top 100 racing drivers named and ranked with shock positions for Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen

The best drivers of all time have been named.

The top 100 racing drivers of all time have been named ranking Formula One current stars Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen against several of the sports legends.

With both Hamilton and Verstappen enjoying dominant spells in Formula One in recent years, the two men have often been described as perhaps two of the best racing drivers of all time.

But with the sport boasting iconic drivers like Michael Schumacher, Aryton Senna and Alain Prost, they face some tough competition when considering who is the very best.

And yet, one top racing outlet have attempted to rank the top 100 drivers of all time, and some of their placements will no doubt shock fans.

The list, created by Motorsport magazine, ranks drivers across all of motorsport based not just on their career statistics, but also on their “greatness”.

With that in mind, many would assume that Verstappen, who looks almost certain to win his fourth consecutive Drivers Championship title this year, would be one of the highest names on the list.

However, the outlet placed the Dutch driver in 16th, praising his achievements so far but suggesting that, while he is young, he has more to achieve before he can make it into the top ten.

Meanwhile his long-term rival Hamilton was handed an impressive second place on the list, just narrowly missing out on the top spot.

Discussing their placement of the talented Brit, Motorsport wrote: “Lewis Hamilton can do things with a car that only a handful of people in the sport’s history have ever been able to do.”

And with an incredible seven F1 Drivers Championship titles, equaling the record set to legend of the sport Schumacher, it is no surprise that Hamilton is placed so highly on the list.

But despite sharing the record for championship titles with Hamilton, fans may be surprised to see that Schumacher is placed 7th on the top 100 list.

Meanwhile at the very top of the list, sits Hamilton’s countryman Jim Clark, who Motorsport credit as the greatest of all time because “he operated at a different speed to the others, at more frames per second.”
