Todd Boehly to be replaced as Chelsea chairman

Since Russian Roman Abramovich was forced to sell Chelsea due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the London club has been plunged into a crisis under its new owner, American businessman Todd Boehly.

Now, it appears that the Boehly era at Chelsea has an expiration date as, according to information from talkSPORT.com, there is an agreement between private equity firm Clearlake Capital and Boehly (and the other co-owners of the team) to rotate the management of the club every 5 years.

That would mean that for the 2026/27 season, Boehly may no longer be the main administrator behind the club. The American, despite only owning a minority stake in the club, was chosen by the board of investors as the face of the project and to be the one in charge of Chelsea.

Clearlake Capital, which is managed by Behdad Eghbali and Jose Feliciano, owns 61.5% of the club, while Boehly has an equal split with Hansjorg Wyss and Mark Walter of 38.5% of Chelsea’s shares.

Chelsea under Boehly

Chelsea are 11th in the Premier League this season and they find themselves out of European competition for the second year in a row having finished 12th in 2022/23.

Under Boehly, Chelsea have reported losses of around 90 million and have spent more than 1 billion on transfers since the arrival of the new owners.
