Ryan Sessegnon rejoins Fulham on two-year contract after Tottenham exit

Ryan Sessegnon has rejoined Fulham as a free agent, five years after leaving the club for Tottenham Hotspur.

The 24-year-old has signed a two-year contract to return to Craven Cottage with the option of a further season after his contract at Spurs expired last month.

The former England under-21 international spent 11 years at Fulham and scored 25 goals in 120 first-team appearances for the club, before joining Spurs in a £25million deal in 2019.

The Athletic reported Sessegnon, who had been training with Crystal Palace with a view to joining as a free agent, underwent his medical at Fulham on Thursday.

The left-back has been working to regain full fitness after surgery on a hamstring injury and Palace head coach Oliver Glasner turned down the opportunity to sign Sessegnon, who could have provided competition to Tyrick Mitchell at left-back.

Fulham’s interest in bringing Sessegnon back to the club was established in early June and he has become the club’s first signing of the summer window.

Marco Silva’s side have seen a number of first-team players depart this summer with Joao Palhinha, Tosin Adarabioyo and Bobby De Cordova-Reid joining Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Leicester City respectively.

Sessegnon was released by Spurs when his contract expired at the end of last season and is close to regaining full fitness after surgery on a hamstring injury.

Sessegnon made 57 total appearances for Tottenham after joining from Fulham in 2019, scoring three goals.

Fulham finished the 2023-24 campaign 13th in the Premier League table in their third season under head coach Silva.
