Micah Richards makes defiant statement to camera during CBS show as Jamie Carragher tells him ‘You’re still on trial’

Micah Richards got a slightly different introduction to CBS Sports’ Champions League show to usual, with Jamie Carragher claiming he was ‘nearly sacked’.

Richards, Carragher and Thierry Henry were joined by usual presenter Kate Scott for the coverage of Tuesday’s action.

And while Scott introduced Henry as an Arsenal icon, with his own statue outside the Emirates Stadium, and Carragher as a Liverpool favourite, Richards got a slightly different introduction.

Scott announced that Richards had ‘kept his job’ on CBS, with the former Manchester City defender exclaiming that he wouldn’t be leaving.

Carragher then chimed in: “He’s not going. We had to put some work in with HR though, didn’t we? We all had a phone call…”

He continued: “They’re the only two [Scott and Henry] that have not nearly been sacked. We’re on this half.

“We had to do a little bit of work for him, didn’t we? Speak to people, the big bosses in the States. You’re still on trial!”

Scott said: “Yes, yes we did.”

It wasn’t made clear exactly what Richards did on the programme to warrant a call with HR – but the conversation didn’t appear to be entirely serious.

Meanwhile, on the last edition of CBS’ Champions League show, Richards accidentally made an explicit joke about David Beckham that left the panel in stitches.

Beckham made a special guest appearance to promote his upcoming show, ‘Beckham and Friends’, which will see the England legend host a watchalong programme with friends and famous faces for the Champions League semi-finals and final.

He gifted Henry, Carragher and Richards a branded tub of honey, with Richards – who was a fan of Beckham growing up – saying: “I got his sticky stuff as well, didn’t I?”

Richards was referring to the label on the honey, which read ‘David Beckham Sticky Stuff’ – but the panel heard a different meaning entirely.

He said: “I meant the honey… what is wrong with your lot’s minds?

“It says on the honey, ‘David Beckham’s Sticky Stuff’,” he added, before laughing.
