Manchester United star Marcus Rashford could inadvertently help rivals Liverpool to keep Mohamed Salah at Anfield, according to a new report.
Salah’s contract at Liverpool expires next summer, along with the deals of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk.
The Egyptian claimed after the Reds’ 3-2 win over Southampton last month that he was ‘more out than in’ at Anfield, and said that he had not yet been offered a new contract.
Since then, The Athletic’s David Ornstein has reported that Liverpool have offered contracts to all three out-of-contract players, although there is no indication that any of the trio are close to an agreement.
Sky Sports senior reporter Melissa Reddy claims that there is an ‘anticipation‘ that both Salah and Van Dijk will stay, with Alexander-Arnold’s new deal set to involve more complicated negotiations amid interest from Real Madrid.
But they may be given a helping hand in securing Salah’s future through an unlikely source.
According to The Telegraph, Manchester United are considering whether to sell Marcus Rashford as new manager Ruben Amorim reshapes his squad.
It is claimed that PSG are keen to sign the England forward, while a move to Saudi Arabia and the Saudi Pro League is even cited as a potential option.
Salah has been heavily linked with a move to both clubs in recent years, with their interest in Rashford potentially signalling that they are turning their attention away from the Egyptian forward.
The 33-year-old – who turns 34 in June – has been with Liverpool since 2017 and a new contract would likely extend that stay to at least a decade.
According to the Daily Mirror, the Reds are set to break their own rule by offering a multi-year extension to a player over the age of 30, with the contract length believed to be the key issue in negotiations with Salah rather than his salary.
