Manchester United fans are demanding that Ruben Amorim takes a Sporting Lisbon player with him to Old Trafford after watching their match against Estrela in Liga Portugal.
Amorim was confirmed as United‘s new head coach on Friday, but will not take charge at Old Trafford until November 11.
That means he has three matches left at Sporting, with the first one of those being a league match on Friday evening.
The Portuguese giants had won all nine of their Liga Portugal matches this season before the fixture, and quickly made significant steps towards making it 10 wins in a row.
Sporting went 3-1 up at half-time, having dominated possession at the Estadio Joao Alvalade and had five shots on target against their struggling opponents.
All three goals came from a predictable source, with striker Viktor Gyokeres – who had scored 12 goals in just nine games prior to Friday evening – netting a stunning 42-minute hat-trick.
The Sweden international put his side in front on 19 minutes with a superb placed finish from a tight angle, before scoring again just 12 minutes later by powering the ball beyond the goalkeeper from close range.
His third goal came from the penalty spot to put Amorim’s side in a commanding position at the break.
He later scored his fourth goal after half-time in what was an eventual 5-1 win for the unbeaten league leaders.
Gyokeres signed for Sporting from Championship side Coventry in the summer of 2023, and scored 43 goals in all competitions during his first season in Portugal.
He has already hit 19 goals already this season, and is well on his way to matching his previous term’s tally.
But United fans want the club to wrap up a move for the £80 million-rated striker quickly.
One wrote: “I have seen enough get Gyokeres to United ASAP.”
A second said: “At this rate Amorim might have to bring Gyokeres along when coming to United because United and Zirkzee can’t do half of what I’m looking at here.”
A third added: “Gyokeres better be a 1+1 in the Amorim to United deal.”
And a fourth stated: “Gyokeres to United for a huge fee. If they can pay £80 million for Antony, surely he’s approached in January for a similar fee.”
