Man Utd dressing room 'source' reveals what the squad now thinks of Casemiro after start to the season

Casemiro has struggled in the early weeks of the new Premier League season.

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro now looks likely to remain at the club, at least until January – despite being linked with a move away from Old Trafford for much of the summer.

Casemiro, 32, has experienced a difficult start to the 2024/25 campaign, with his performance in United’s 3-0 defeat to Liverpool raising doubts over his ability to still play at the top level.

Reports claimed that United had hoped to offload the £350,000-a-week midfielder in the summer transfer market.

But with the majority of the biggest windows around Europe now closed, it appears likely Casemiro will remain with the Red Devils.

His final realistic route out of Old Trafford this summer is a move to Turkey, where the transfer window remains open until Friday.

Galatasaray had been linked with the Brazilian but that interest appears to have cooled.

As a result, Casemiro – who joined United in a £70m transfer from Real Madrid in 2022 – now looks set to remain part of Erik ten Hag‘s squad.

Casemiro’s teammates at Old Trafford believe the veteran’s decline has come as a consequence of the club’s own struggles, according to the Manchester Evening News.

A dressing room ‘source’ told the MEN that United’s squad acknowledge Casemiro ‘didn’t sign up’ for a second season at attempting to qualify for the Champions League, after they finished eighth in the Premier League last term.

Casemiro is under contract with United until 2026 but now faces the prospect of being replaced in the team by Manuel Ugarte, who joined in a £50m move from PSG this summer.

Ten Hag, however, has defended Casemiro from criticism and believes the five-time Champions League winner can still play a major role for the club.

“I’m sure he is a great character and he won everything in his career what you can imagine,” Ten Hag said.

“I am sure he will keep contributing to our team and Casemiro is always winning so he will be there.”
