Manchester City are ready to offer Erling Haaland a so-called ‘mega’ deal that would make him the highest paid player in Premier League history.

The 24-year-old striker, who has scored 105 goals in 114 games for City, including 16 this season, is currently in talks with the Premier League champions over a new big-money contract worth £500,000 per-week.

That’s according to The Mirror, who suggest that his ‘basic salary’ would eclipse the Premier League’s second-highest paid player, Kevin De Bruyne, who is currently on £400,000 per-week.

Haaland has yet to put pen-to-paper as an ‘issue’ around his £150 million release clause continues to be a stumbling block, but there has been a positive response to recent negotiations.

Manchester City, meanwhile, are hoping that Pep Guardiola‘s decision to sign a one-year contract extension will help get Haaland’s reported £100 million deal over the line.

That’s according to The Sun, who suggest a contract extension would see Haaland remain at City for four or five more years, meaning he could potentially earn in the region of £100 million without bonuses.

Last week, before Guardiola penned his contract extension, Haaland said: “I hope Pep signs a new contract. He has been important for me in the first two-and-a-half years.”

He added: “I hope he stays longer. I like Pep a lot and hope he likes me, too.”

Earlier this month, it was reported that Real Madrid would be willing to offer €200 million [£166 million] to bring Manchester City’s top scorer to the club.

Los Blancos president Florentino Perez is believed to have put a plan in place if Rodrygo and Vinicius Junior leave the Spanish giants, with Haaland seen as the ‘chosen one’, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes.

“The possibility of joining Real Madrid, a club with such a rich legacy and boundless ambition, is tempting for any footballer,” the report adds.
