Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard 'told to resign' as Al Ettifaq manager after suffering latest humiliation

The Premier League great has struggled in the Saudi Pro League.

Liverpool great Steven Gerrard has been called out on social media and told to resign as a manager after suffering a humiliating blow at Al Ettifaq.

After a disappointing spell in the Premier League with Aston Villa, Gerrard was appointed as manager of Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq in July 2023.

Since joining the club, Gerrard has led them to victory in just 17 out of his 45 matches in charge of the side, drawing another 14.

And now, some fans have finally lost their patience with the Englishman, calling for him to resign immediately after another set of humiliating moments.

In their last two matches, Al Ettifaq have drawn 1-1 with a struggling Al Feiha side in the Pro League and suffered a brutal 3-1 loss to Saudi second tier side Al-Jabalain.

And immediately following the draw with Al Feiha, one fan took to social media to voice their frustrations, writing: “By God, Gerrard is making fun of himself. I have never seen a failed coach who has a lot of excellent names and doesn’t know how to employ them properly.

“Dembele is a substitute and he is the top scorer, and Majed Duran is one of the best talents. May God help Al-Ettifaq fans.”

Another agreed, simply posting: “Al-Ettifaq’s situation will not change with Gerrard at the helm of the technical staff.”

Perhaps the biggest criticism of the English manager is his controversial lineup choices in recent matches.

After the After losing 3-2 to Al-Orobah, one fan noted: “I was very optimistic before the match, but when I saw the lineup, I washed my hands of it. In every match, there is confusion and changing of names.

“It has confused me and all the experts about how to draw the lineup that Mr. Gerrard has been in for seven or eight rounds so far. He has been around since last season and he doesn’t know how to put together a lineup.”

The loss to Al Feiha on Wednesday marks five winless games in a row for Gerrard and Al Ettifaq, seemingly putting significant pressure on the 44-year-old’s future at the club.
