Premier League legend Jose Mourinho may be on his way back to England as new reports suggest he is eying up a move to a surprise club.

Mourinho is one of the most successful, and due to his personality perhaps the most iconic, managers in the history of the Premier League.

Having managed Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, the Portuguese manager is well-versed in the top tier of English football

But now, three years after leaving England, a new report has suggested that Mourinho is strongly under consideration to return to the Premier League to manage a club that nobody would expect.

According to Football Insider, Mourinho is a ‘strong contender’ to replace Everton manager Sean Dyche once American businessman Dan Friedkin completes his takeover of the Merseyside club.

In September, the 59-year-old reached an agreement with current owner Farhad Moshiri to purchase his 94.1 per cent stake in the club.

However, the deal is subject to regulatory approval from several organisations , including from the Premier League, the Football Association, and the Financial Conduct Authority, and therefore is not fully completed yet.

But once the deal is sealed, sourced told Football Insider not to rule out of a move to Everton, despite him only joining Turkish club Fenerbahce in June.

Friedkin previously worked with the 61-year-old manager at Serie A club Roma, who he joined after leaving Tottenham in 2021, and sees him as the perfect option to replace current manager Dyche should his form not improve.

So far this season, Everton have won only two matches across the seven matches in all competitions this season.

In the Premier League, the Toffees currently sit narrowly outside the relegation zone in 16th, after finally claiming their first win of the season last Saturday as they beat Crystal Palace 2-1 at Goodison Park.

In total, Dyche has a win rate of just 34% at Everton, with 24 wins, 17 draws, and 30 defeats, his worst record as a manager.

And, with his contract ending at the end of the season, it is reported that Everton do not intend to extend his deal as Friedkin has told his inner circle that he does not regard Dyche as a viable long-term manager for his new club.
