Arsenal’s goalkeeper Matt Turner spoke to ITV after the match:
Live Reporter
🗣 “Overall it was a pretty even game… we put them under a lot of pressure. I wouldn’t say there’s a psychological edge either way – but I would get your popcorn ready for the next two matches!”
We certainly will, Matt Turner 🍿

Pep: ‘Arsenal have taken a step forward’
Pep Guardiola spoke to the BBC after the win: “We were definitely better in the second half. Arsenal have taken a step forward. It was a tight game and you realise how good a side they are. I did not expect the approach from them – man-to man – it was difficult to build up but we beat the team at the top of the league and are in the next round.
“What a season (Nathan Ake) is playing. He controlled one of the toughest opponents in the Premier League because Saka is in an incredible moment.
« He is really good in the duels in the box, defending the far post and set pieces is an extra bonus. He is an exceptional guy, there was a period where he didn’t play and he never complained once.”

Adding to the reasons Arsenal want Moises Caicedo, Mikel Arteta has said that Thomas Partey may have suffered an injury today:

Arteta: ‘We could have got much more out of the game’
Mikel Arteta spoke to ITV after the defeat: « Really disappointed. I think we could have got much more out of the game.
« The action decided the game but it was a tight game and that one action changed it all. I think we could have dealt with it much better in terms of our discipline when the ball was in the box.
« We had big situations in the game and we didn’t put them away. We can take a lot of positives, I think the way we approached the game and competed.
« It is really difficult to win against this team but we went head-to-head with them. In the big moments, in big matches you have to make the difference. That is how you win these games. »

FA Cup last 16
Manchester City have now reached the fifth round of the FA Cup for the eighth straight season.
Arsenal, meanwhile, have failed to reach the last 16 for the third straight season. Since lifting the FA Cup in 2020, Arsenal have won just two of their five ties in the competition.

Arsenal can take positives
It’s never nice to lose but I think Arsenal will be able to live with that outcome.
Today showed they don’t need to approach the crucial Premier League games against Manchester City with fear. If they can get their first XI on the pitch, they’ll be competitive.
Matt Turner and Leandro Trossard showed they can contribute when required.
Honestly my thoughts now are all about that Thomas Partey substitution. Hopefully it was pre-planned.
The difference between Partey and Albert Sambi Lokonga is stark. I can certainly see why Arsenal are looking to address that area in the transfer market.

A generally even game punctuated by Nathan Ake’s unlikely moment of quality in front of goal. Manchester City did an excellent job shutting Arsenal down in the second half.
City advance to the last 16, while Arsenal are left to compete in the Premier League and the Europa League for the remainder of the season.

City in control
79′ Manchester City 1-0 Arsenal
Arsenal initially responded well to going behind, creating one or two chances in the immediate aftermath of Ake’s goal.
However, things have since settled down a bit. City are now effectively strangling the life out of the game, keeping the ball away from the visitors.
