Former West Ham defender Angelo Ogbonna has agreed a one year deal with Watford.
An option for a further year has been included in the contract terms.
The 36-year-old has been without a club since leaving former side West Ham United earlier this summer.
The Athletic outlined on Friday that Ogbonna was in advanced talks with the club. Final negotiations took place over the last 24 hours to reach final agreement on terms.
It’s expected that Ogbonna will take a short period – one to two weeks – to establish fitness levels before he can take his place in the Watford side.
Ogbonna joined West Ham from Juventus in the summer of 2015.
During his nine years with the side, he made 249 appearances, scored 13 goals and helped the club secure European qualification, winning the Conference League in 2023.
Ogbonna – a left footed centre back – replaces Watford defender Wesley Hoedt, who left to join Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab on Friday.
Watford are also hoping to complete permanent deals for two other players: another central defender Kevin Keben from Toulouse and Royal Antwerp midfielder Pierre Dwomoh while Bournemouth striker Daniel Jebbison is set to join on loan next week.
Dwomoh and Keben both attended Watford’s 2-1 victory over Derby County on Saturday that leaves them 2nd in the table with a 100 per cent record.
Watford are next in action against Plymouth Argyle in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening.
