Arsenal fans couldn’t believe their eyes after their team scored a breathtaking freekick against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
Paris Saint-Germain travelled to the Emirates stadium to face Arsenal in both side’s second matches of this season’s Champions League.
Kai Havertz opened the scoring for the hosts after he got a touch on a cross from Leandro Trossard to net his fifth goal of the season.
Shortly after, captain Bukayo Saka scored an incredible freekick to take Arsenal into half-time 2-0 ahead, and fans cannot believe it.
Standing just metres from the corner flag, Saka curled the ball into the box and, despite the efforts of his teammates, the ball found the back of the net without touching another player.
Reacting to the free kick on social media platform X, one fan wrote: “Saka’s set piece quality has been unreal.”
Another was confused by the new tactic, writing: “What set piece tactic is this Arsenal😂😂”
And one confident fan replied: “When I saw that set piece tactic I knew it was over 🤣🤣”
While one happy fan simply added: “People finally going to wake up and start realising how good this Arsenal team is ❤️”
The goal was Saka’s first scored from a free-kick and his fifth goal in six Champions League matches at the Emirates.
It was also Arsenal’s first from a direct free-kick in over three years, with the last one coming on 18 September 2021 (Martin Odegaard v Burnley).
Should Arsenal go on to win the match, it will be their first in this season’s Champions League after they drew their first match 0-0 with Europa League winners Atalanta.
With tough away games coming up against Inter Milan and Sporting, securing the three points from the match against French champions PSG would certainly boost Arsenal’s chances of progressing to the next stage.
