Fabrizio Romano reveals Trent Alexander-Arnold's 'priority' as Real Madrid make Liverpool defender top target

A huge update has been provided on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract situation at Liverpool.

Fabrizio Romano has provided a huge update on the transfer saga of Trent Alexander-Arnold amid Real Madrid’s interest in the Liverpool star.

Alexander-Arnold‘s contract situation at Liverpool remains unsolved amid his existing deal coming to an end.

He’s out of contract at the end of the season, with the England international yet to agree fresh terms with the club over a new deal.

His contract situation has alerted Real, who have made him a priority target.

The Spanish giants are also considering other right-back options, including Tottenham‘s Pedro Porro, Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong and Sevilla’s Juanlu.

However, Alexander-Arnold is the club’s preferred option, but the transfer is only feasible if he runs down his contract at Anfield.

According to Romano, Real are waiting to see what happens between the 26-year-old and Liverpool before making a move.

The Italian reporter also claims that Alexander-Arnold is giving priority to Liverpool but if he doesn’t renew, then Real will be waiting in the wings to pounce.

He will be free to negotiate a free transfer with other clubs from January.

During the international break, where he scored a stunning free-kick in England’s 3-1 win Finland, Alexander-Arnold was asked about his future to which he replied: “I’ve entered the prime of my career right now and I don’t want to be the player who only won trophies when he was young.”

He has spent his entire career at Liverpool, having graduated from the club’s youth academy.

Since making his debut in the 2016/17 season, he has gone onto make 319 appearances across all competitions for his boyhood team.

He’s won the Premier League, Champions League, the EFL Cup and the FA Cup during his time at the club.

Alexander-Arnold has started every league and Champions League game this season as he’s hugely important player under Arne Slot’s system.
