Chelsea have not been shy to bring in players under Todd Boehly’s ownership and it seems a couple more are in their sights for the January transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Boehly has been co-owner and chairman at Chelsea since the summer of 2022 following the club’s sale by previous owner Roman Abramovich after two decades.
And since Boehly’s takeover, the club have embarked on transfer window after and transfer window of heavy transfer activity, with an emphasis on bringing in plenty of new talent and selling academy products to offset this due to the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.
More than £1 billion has been spent by the Stamford Bridge club in that time on around 40 players.
The first was Raheem Sterling from Manchester City in the summer of 2022 for £47.5 million and the most expensive overall acquisition so far has been Moises Caicedo, whose deal to take him to Chelsea from Brighton including add-ons comes in at £115 million, with the outright most expensive being the £107 million spent on Enzo Fernandez from Benfica.
The best signing in that time, many would say, is Cole Palmer from City in the summer of 2023, who scored 25 goals for Chelsea last season across all competitions.
Some 10 players were bought over the summer on permanent deals by Chelsea, while Jadon Sancho arrived on loan from Manchester United for the rest of the season at the end of the last transfer window.
But the Stamford Bridge club appear to be planning to strengthen further in the heart of their defence during the January transfer window.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano in his latest YouTube show, Chelsea are scouting RB Leipzig’s Castello Lukeba and Benfica’s Tomas Araujo, the former of which is also admired by Real Madrid.
Araujo is aged 22 and come through the youth team ranks at Benfica, representing Portugal up to under-21 level.
Lukeba meanwhile is 21 and joined RB Leipzig last summer from French club Lyon.
He has also been capped by France at senior level, making his debut for Les Bleus last year in an international friendly against Scotland.
Both players have contracts which run until the summer of 2028, so their current teams are in a strong position to command strong fees for their defensive assets should Chelsea act on their interest and come calling in January.
