Everton have confirmed that striker Youssef Chermiti has undergone surgery on a foot injury.

Chermiti, who joined the club from Sporting Lisbon last summer, picked up the issue during a pre-season training session at the club’s Finch Farm base.

In a statement on Monday, the Merseyside club said the 20-year-old will now begin rehabilitation — but no timeframe was been provided on his recovery.

Chermiti is just one of a number of injury concerns for manager Sean Dyche ahead of the start of the 2024-25 campaign.

Dyche said the club were having to be “careful” with club captain Seamus Coleman and midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure after the duo missed Everton’s pre-season victory over Preston North End on Saturday.

“Doucs got a bit of a knock so we’re being careful. He has a bit of a tight hamstring,” said Dyche.

He added: “Seamus [Coleman] got a bit of a knock so we’re being careful with him too. His knee was grumbling a bit so we just had to be careful and we are monitoring the lads coming back.”

Defender Michael Keane also went off at Deepdale with a “knock”.

Dyche is optimistic on the outlook for midfielder James Garner, who missed Saturday’s game with a calf problem.

“His is hopefully going to settle down quite quickly,” said Dyche. “It’s a calf, so we’re not exactly sure how the body will respond yet, but I don’t think it will be too long.”

Meanwhile Jarrad Branthwaite, who has been the subject of two bids from Manchester United, and Nathan Patterson, who had hamstring surgery in April, have yet to feature in a pre-season fixture with just over 10 days to until the new Premier League season starts.
