Cristiano Ronaldo’s son has been pictured wearing the new Manchester United shirt and fans may be surprised at the name on the back.
Ronaldo left United in less-than-ideal circumstances after a breakdown in his relationship with Erik ten Hag back in 2022.
His interview with Piers Morgan did not go down well at Old Trafford, with the five-time Ballon d’Or winner branding the club as “behind” the other top teams in a brutal assessment of his previous emploeyers.
He also claimed “the progress was zero” in the intervening years following his departure from United to Real Madrid in 2009.
Despite this, the Portuguese has voiced his love for the club on many occasions. Ronaldo currently plays for Al Nassr and has continued his impressive goalscoring exploits in the Saudi Pro League after a glittering career.
United fans still hold Ronaldo in high esteem despite the terms of his departure following a tumultuous second stint at the club. And the fact his son Cristiano Ronaldo Jr dons the famous red shirt ensures his legacy will live on.
On Monday morning, a picture of Ronaldo Jr surfaced online, appearing to show him wearing a United shirt with [Alejandro] Garnacho printed on the back.
Garnacho is a huge fan of Ronaldo and was even spotted donning an Al Nassr shirt himself while on holiday over the summer in tribute to one of his idols.
Ronaldo Jr has previously been known to wear Juventus and Al Nassr shirts.
The 14-year-old is thought to be playing for the Saudi Arabian side’s youth setup as he looks to emulate his father.
Ronaldo’s success is well known but he recently put his longevity and desire to continue playing down to showing his kids what he can do.
“In this period, the last few years, I prove not to the people – I don’t care about what the people say. It’s more to show my kids,” Ronaldo explained to Rio Ferdinand on UR. Cristiano.
“They are my inspiration. Because they are young, they see everything. Of course, It’s myself first. I mean, I still love to play football. [They can say] ‘He’s finished..’ they say whatever they want.”
Garnacho will no doubt be delighted to be regarded so highly in the Ronaldo household. Despite the obvious comparisons with compatriot Lionel Messi, the 20-year-old winger started his first game alongside Ronaldo in October 2022.
After the game, he took to social media to post a photo of himself and Ronaldo, captioned: “I don’t know if it’s real or if I’m dreaming.”
