The Football Association (FA) has confirmed the date and kick-off time for this year’s Community Shield.

Premier League champions Manchester City will take on FA Cup winners and local rivals Manchester United in a 3pm kick-off at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, August 10.

The traditional curtain raiser to the new domestic season will take place six days before United begin their Premier League campaign against Fulham on Friday, August 16.

Man City, meanwhile, begin the defence of their title on Sunday at Stamford Bridge in new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca’s Premier League bow.

The Community Shield is a repeat of the 2023 FA Cup final which saw Erik ten Hag lead win his second piece of his silverware as United head coach.

City had earlier clinched an eighth Premier League title — and a sixth under Pep Guardiola — with victory over West Ham United on the final day of the 2023-24 season.

Guardiola’s side became the only team in the history of English football to win four successive top-flight league championships, but they have lost all three of their previous Community Shield appearances, including a penalty shootout defeat to Arsenal last year.

City last lifted the trophy in 2019 after beating Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool on penalties.

The game will be broadcast live on ITV, with radio coverage from talkSPORT and the BBC.
