Chelsea have made an offer worth €120million (£105m, $130m) for Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez.
The west London club are insistent on getting the deal done before the transfer window closes on Tuesday at 11pm. Fernandez has been a target for Chelsea throughout the January window and they are now pushing to get a deal done.
The 22-year-old starred at the World Cup in Qatar, helping Argentina win the tournament by beating France in the final.
Fernandez only joined Benfica in the summer. They paid €10million to Argentinian side River Plate to sign him, plus a further €8million in add-ons.
Chelsea have already spent close to £200million this month, with Ukrainian forward Mykhailo Mudryk joining from Shakhtar Donetsk in a deal worth up to £88.5million.
The club have also signed David Datro Fofana from Norwegian side Molde, Benoit Badiashile from Monaco, Andrey Santos from Brazilian club Vasco da Gama and Noni Madueke from PSV Eindhoven, as well as Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid.
They are seeking a successor to Jorginho, who is set to become a free agent this summer, and saw a £55million bid for Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo rejected earlier this month.
