Chelsea flop sold by Mauricio Pochettino last year is now smashing it at his new club

A former Chelsea star sold by Mauricio Pochettino in 2023 is now in the form of his life at his new club.

The Blues have sold a whole host of players since Todd Boehly took over as chairman in May 2022.

Conor Gallagher, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz were all moved on for significant sums but one player has since become a shining light with his new side following his departure from Stamford Bridge.

Sold for £18.8 million, the USMNT international is enjoying a superb start to life away from the Premier League.

Seen as the brightest American star of his generation, Christian Pulisic‘s move to AC Milan seems to be working out for all the right reasons.

The winger registered 20 goal involvements (12 goals and eight assists) in his first Serie A season and is continuing to thrive this term.

Having notched three goals and two assists in just five games, Pulisic is drawing praise from around Europe.

“At Chelsea, Pulisic was often guilty of taking too many touches,” recently wrote the Guardian’s Graham Ruthven.

“He would slow down attacking moves in a way that limited his own threat. Since joining Milan, though, Pulisic has quickened his play.

“He is making faster decisions and putting up better numbers as a result. At his current rate, Pulisic will break the 20-goal mark for the first time in his career this season.”

For all of his efforts, Pulisic’s spell in the Premier League failed to work out for many reasons despite the occasional significant contribution, with a number of injuries curtailing his progress with the Blues.

They were too few and far between, however, and he wasn’t handed enough opportunities by Graham Potter and then Pochettino to prove his worth and the USMNT winger has previously spoken on how he felt regarding the situation.

Speaking to ESPN in 2023, the former Dortmund man said”: “It’s absolutely a time where I need to figure out what’s going to be best for my future and be somewhere where I can go and play and be trusted and feel good in what I’m doing.

“I want to find that joy at a club level again, for sure.”

Pulisic is doing just that this season and was pivotal as AC Milan beat rivals Inter recently in the Milan derby.

He netted the opening goal as Paulo Fonseca’s side toppled the reigning Italian champions 2-1 at the San Siro.
